Issues: Economy
With our national economy having problems, our state does, too.
Foreclosures continue to haunt Colorado's economy, but now there is help for beleaguered homeowners. If you or someone you know is having difficulty paying your mortgage, please call the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline at 1-877-601-HOPE. The Colorado Foreclosure Hotline is a non-profit organization committed to helping you stop foreclosure before it starts. This non-profit provides options available to you when you are struggling to make a mortgage payment. Please call 1-877-601-HOPE if you need help.
Even though Colorado's economy is doing better than the national economy, both Governor Ritter's budget staff and our legislative budget staff predict a downturn in Colorado's economy. This is caused by an expected decrease in the state sales tax income, as Coloradans spend less. As a result, Governor Ritter's budget shows a smaller increase in funding for every agency.
The Joint Budget Comittee is now hearing testimony from all departments about their needs. If you want to attend these sessions, they start at 9:00 a.m. daily, Monday through Friday. The meetings are held in the State Services Building (the building south of the Capitol), in the JBC Hearing Room on the third floor. The meetings are open to the public.
